Go WaterWise with Succulents

WaterWiseIt’s succulent season – we have a wide range of these hardy plants available now at our three branches in Bellville, Kenilworth and Milnerton. These ingenious plants have developed over centuries to become masters of survival in hot, dry conditions. They store water in their fleshy leaves, thickened stems and roots and sharp spines (the ‘thorns’).

Here are a few suggestions of succulents to suit various conditions :

Winter-flowering succulents - Aloes and bokbaaivygies.

Shade-loving succulents - Crassula and euphorbia.

Frost tolerant succulents - Kalanchoe and Senecio articulatus.

For the vast majority of the year your outdoor succulents won’t need any watering – they’ll rely on the water which they store when it rains. They may need to be watered once a month in the very hot and dry summer months. Succulents also make great, hassle-free indoor plants. Give them good watering once a month and you’ll have happy plants all year round – and many varieties will surprise you with an unexpected burst of colour when they come into flower!
